Publishers earn in the Kindle Store more in the future to the digital editions of their newspapers and magazines. Amazon also makes it easier for them to adjust to new content in the e-book download store.

On 1 December 2010 emphasizes the Amazon Kindle store on the revenue share for magazine and newspaper publishers. You will receive 70 percent of the sales turnover, less mobile transmission fees to Amazon’s Kindle reading devices. Are these posted over WLAN or is it to smartphones, tablets or computers with Amazon’s Kindle Reader software at no additional cost.

For newspaper and magazine publishers, the new scheme is much more profitable. Previously, they got only 30 percent of sales, which made the Kindle platform rather unattractive. Attractive to them now with the “Kindle Publishing for Periodicals”, a tool currently in beta launched for easier uploading, reviewing and publishing periodicals.

For the higher revenue share, publishers must also make sure that their regular publications are readable on all Kindle device and Kindle apps that they can be read in all regions where have the publishers the rights to the content, and that the digital output will be not later than the printed and at least identical in content to 95 percent.

The improved conditions for the proliferation of magazines and newspapers on the Kindle Store could also benefit German publishers soon. Amazon is rumored to start at 2011, a localized Kindle Store for Germany.

A number of my company’s benefit auctions in Washington, D.C. will include a printer’s plate in the silent auction.

What is a printer’s plate?

The plate itself is a slab of imprinted metal which is traditionally used in offset printing. The raised areas of the plate carried the ink, which was transferred to a rubber blanket and onto the printing surface (i.e. the paper).

That said, newspapers of today are created through the use of computers. So these donated plates have never actually been used to create the paper.

Although the image is identical to what guests saw on the front page of the daily paper, these plates are smaller than a traditional plate would be. The plates also seem to be constructed of a lighter metal than what I would have expected from a traditional plate.

A couple of my clients have received multiple plates from the newspaper donor. The newspaper has a number of plates made and then seems to disperse them to non-profits and other organizations.

For example, one client had been given two printer’s plates from November 5, 2008 – the day the world learned that the United States had elected its first African-American president. For fans of President Obama, history buffs, or even just news junkies, the plates were a unique piece of history, regardless of whether the plates were those actually used to print The Wall Street Journal.

According to my clients, these plates are relatively easy to obtain. here in Washington, D.C., several non-profits have procured a printer’s plate from The Washington Post and from The Wall Street Journal.

If you are wondering how to procure a printer’s plate, start with your local paper.

If you have a contact, call him or her first. For groups lacking a contact, call the paper and ask for the Community Relations or Marketing departments. These internal teams traditionally handle donations to organizations. They can inform you as to whether the paper has plates, and – if so – if they are available for donation. If there is a particular date important to your group (such as a birthday, or the anniversary of a building opening), ask about the availability of that unique date. The uniqueness of the date might attract bidders!

If you believe the plate will sell well, ask if you can receive two of them. That way, if the item is later deemed worthy for the live auction, at least the auctioneer can sell two of them.

Stonebridge Press Newspapers has added to its group of community newspapers with the creation of a new division of the publishing company, focusing on Northeast Connecticut.

Beginning September 23, the Putnam Villager, Woodstock Villager and Thompson Villager, will be mailed weekly to every home in the Northeast Corner of Connecticut. These new weekly community papers will serve residents in the towns and villages of Putnam, Woodstock, Thompson, Eastford and Pomfret, Connecticut.

“Every week, each Villager newspaper will be a true reflection of its local towns and villages. We invite readers to write in and become a part of the first draft of local history. We believe in being relentlessly local.” There are no plans to charge for subscriptions, and each newspaper will be 100% advertiser supported. Chilinski added, “Our readers are loyal to our trusted advertisers, as they are a key part of the community newspaper each week.”

Total Market Coverage Newspapers

The Villager Newspapers are unique in that they will be mailed free to every home in the markets they serve. As total market coverage newspapers, they will provide advertisers the opportunity to reach every home in the local market, while delivering a quality news product to the communities.
